So we've decided that we don't mind hosting another Halloween party over at HOThRA. I was thinking about having it that Friday, Oct 31st. or Saturday, November 1st.
First of all, I'd like to get a general idea on who could make these dates, so I can pick which one of them to have the party on. (My guess is Sat.)
Second of all, I need to bring up a point about big HOThRAn parties. The last few parties, there have been a number of people spending over a hundred bucks on the party. Even a couple of people spending in the 300 range. That is just in raw supplies, and not including energy and cleaning supplies (which HOThRa does not mind handling).
I'd like to lessen the strain on the people who spend way more than necessary. I don't know how I feel about charging for entry or anything, but please keep in mind that big parties that eat/drink a lot are expensive, and most of us can't afford to take the brunt on that.
Like usual, this will probably be a "Bring your own ___" party, but a few bags of chips doesn't really even out when someone spends 150 on alcohol. I'm not going to mandate that people have to pay to come to the party or anything, so I'm looking for ideas on how to alleviate the pressure on a few people's wallets.
I was thinking of a Donation box of sorts, and people who buy large amounts of crap for the party can keep their receipts, and we can distribute the donations out to them. The box could also be used for any emergency, last minute supplies. However, this wouldn't work if only 2 people donate 10 bucks.

Turns out our first annual HOThRAcon (as it has been named due to popular opinion) was a roaring success.
Friday night some of us weren't sure how the party could be any better, but the fact that there was still another day to be had was awesome. Turns out Saturday did indeed get even better.

Winner: Caylen 64 Beer shots! After puking, he went on to finish off the rest and hit 100, to then fall asleep next to the toilet after more puking.
Everybody else bowed out before they puked.

You know that guy Joe was complaining about a while ago? He was on 105.3's new morning show again, and we needed some ammo.
What is a game that he would be completely stumped about? He seems to know about most x-box games, and sports games, so that is out of the question. I also wanted something new, fresh if you will, to talk to him about. Something he wouldn't have had a lot of time to look into. So I asked Adam, what is a new game that just recently came out? Super Princess Peach. Leave it to Adam to come up with this game. I guess that is a whole separate 'Adam is a fruitcake' post, though.
I've been on the radio before, back in high school when I used to listen to it a lot. It is no big deal, however, today, I was excited. Never have I gone on the radio trying to make someone other than myself look like an idiot. Anyways, so they do the normal routine, what is your name, where are you from, what is your question? I answer, wait patently. We were worried that because I had to have the radio down, Joe and Adam wouldn't be able to hear his part of the conversation. Thanks to radio delay, and the 15min wait, I got "You're on the air with Steve Masters!" right as we parked at work, so I quickly jumped out so they could turn the radio up.
He is as dumb to talk to as you would think.
"You're on the air with Steve Masters!"
"Hi, I had a question about Super Princess Peach!"
"Okay"
"I just wanted to know about the game, is it worth buying, fun to play..."
"Durr"
Now, part of me was hoping, wishing in fact, that he would say "that game looks lame, don't buy it" or something to that effect. Then I could have had a minute amount of respect for him.
"I personally have yet to get my hands on it, but some of the kids around here have it" Kids around here? At Gottgame.com? Kids as in, 12 year olds? Why are there little kids there? Anyways, I didn't have time to ask questions such as those, I had to keep leading him on. Come on Steve, make me want to buy this game. Sell it to me.
Oh did he. He said he doesn't really play those "rpg adventure" type games. Really, Steve? I couldn't tell. For a so called man of "expertise in radio", this man was stuttering and just in general didn't know what to say. I like to imagine him sitting there, with some paper and notes, hearing the question and just looking like a deer in headlights. I guess he is an expert on the radio though, because he started spewing out shit so fast after the initial 'shock', to make himself look like he knows what he is talking about. I was almost impressed.
"Its got a unique story line, it is very colorful." I thought you never played it, idiot.
"Oh, so its a kids game, then?" You could head the sound of "oh shit" in this guys voice. I am not sure why, but he really wanted to make this game sound good. I don't understand it, if you don't know anything about it, why not just say that. Why not say it looks like a child game. I think he was just worried about saying something bad, loosing potential payoffs. Well shit, if he can sell Super Princess Peach, he can sell anything!
"If you like that kind of game, you will like it." ...... There are not enough words, Steve ... not enough words in any language to display my frustration about you...
I was basically told to buy a game I knew nothing about, and he knew nothing about. Instead of coming on the radio, telling people to call and ask about any game that a person may have questions about, before buying, perhaps he should just say "Hey, call and talk to me on the radio, about the games I get paid a truckload of money to pretend are good, because I don't know shit about being a gamer."
The bright side is, at the end of the call, when I stuck my head in the car to listen to the last part of the conversation, they played a "Fruity fruity fruity" clip. There is something, odd, about being indirectly called fruity on the radio. It was funny ... and well worth it. In fact, I am surprised that was the only thing I was called, asking about Super Princess Peach is pretty ... fruity.
I am sure Joe and Adam could probably add something to all this, considering it was hard to hear over the phone, and I was trying to control my giggling. |
